Owls

There's no getting away from the fact that we like owls.

Well, Dot in particular LOVES them!

(this is a VERY small example of Dot's owl-y collection - not counting her green owl necklace from Dottery Pottery, or the Roman owl necklace that Daisy bought her on a recent museum trip - and various other owl-flavoured presents.
The Happy Birthday card and notelets were made by the wonderful Charlie P)

and then, of course, there's Walter Pigeon, her huge owl-heat-pad-cushion that I made for her birthday last year

so making cardboard owls for the top of the stairs was obviously the next step after all those horses

and Dot and I also collaborated on this appliqued owl which Dot is busy stitching

Finally, I was going to show you my new handbag (which has nothing to do with owls other than the feathery fabric) but it is still in the washing machine where it is being "softened up" to create that "lived-in" look!

Next time..................

  9. Just a thimbleful....

I think the owl is made out of the tablecloth/lining material used in the bag in your last post! Do you use the tablecloth with those bits cut out of it?

  16. I loooooove the owls! They really make a very pleasing motif.
I am captivated when I hear a barn owl in the night, usually perched on our neighbor's barn. Sometimes on well-moonlit nights, I can just see him/her up there, and when it hoots, he/she bends forward, puffs out like a bellows and blows out the "who-cooks-for-you" call that the bird books describe. In that moment, it just seems miraculous....I shiver for the field mice.

  17. I just love reading your blog!!! Please look on the Moda Bakeshop website - there is a fab pattern for an owl cushion that I'm sure your daughter would love.
My daughter is a big fan of owls too - we even hand reared a barn owl chick that had been born in captivity which was really exciting, and she used to live in an aviary in our garden (the owl, not my daughter!!). here is the link for the moda bakeshop website

  23. Oh Lucy, one of my oldest friends just confessed she loves owls! She used to be a cow fanatic but obviously she has begun to diversify, and for good reason. Owls are so cute! I was thinking I must sew an owl-something for her soon. Look at all the inspiration in this post! Thank you!
