Will you still talk to me without pictures???

My camera is still broken : o (
and I have a million things (ok - slight exaggeration) that I want to post pictures of!

We have been really busy this week with the end of term "stuff" that goes on and I nearly broke my arm this morning carrying a basket full of bottles of wine and boxes of chocolates for all the teachers, teaching assistants and lollipop man. Because the same teacher taught all three children in Reception I wanted to make something special for her to show how much I appreciated her kindness to the children and her patience with me! (I think mummies are meant to remember to send forms in on time (filled in too!), return reading books, label clothes etc - but I seem to be missing that important mummy-skill and their teacher has maintained her calm patience through 3 years of forgetfulness!) I was lucky that the children all had the same nursery teacher too and I made her a special present last year when they left - fortunately I already have a photo of it on my computer
I adapted it from a primitive stitchery pattern that said "Welcome" and their teacher was really delighted with it and the realisation of how much we appreciated her brought tears to her eyes.

This year I have adapted an Anni Downs picture from her Angel's Story - using an angel from one design and the flying children from another. Hopefully I will be able to post a picture later as a friend is going to take a photo of it for me. Fred and Daisy have also made cushions for their teachers so watch this space!

I am really looking forward to the holidays and the 6 week break from all the last-minute-need-to-get-everything-ready-can't-find-my- shoes /coat/bag/ brain(me!)-we're-going-to- be-late-stress of a school morning. Problem is I have been so busy crafting this week (also making a patchwork fleece blanket for an order and a birthday present for Dorothy as we will be in Italy for her birthday) that the house is a bomb-site and there is so much to do before the children and I can have fun. I can see a rota being created to get the balance of work/play sorted out. I have tried to explain to the children over the years that we need a relatively tidy house for them to be able to do the things they want - for example, you can't have a morning of painting etc if you can't find the table because of all the junk, or you can't play with your castle and playmobil if they are scattered across every room in the house and mostly buried under 4ft of clean clothes (that were in the drawer yesterday!) and so on. Does explaining work? Not so far but I live in hope!

I will, hopefully, add some more photos later. But please still talk to me anyway, Lucy

Pictures are fun, but don't need to be a daily part of your blog. We'll all still love you anyway... of course! You are such a sweet, caring woman.

I love the bit about cleaning up the stuff in the house to know where it is. I need to tidy up our house as we're going away for a few days and I love to come home to a clean house. It's so much more inviting to plunge into a new project.

Wot No Camera - Wot you going ta do!

You'll have to get it fixed for the summer holidays.

Guess children all broken up now. Ped and Em finished at 12 today but in the hour it took me to leave work pick them up and get back to work the roads were all flooded. So after nearly flooding the car with water I had to try and get back home from work and so had to go on a 10 mile detour but I made it and had the rest of the afternoon at home

I want to be your child's teacher! I would love to get those sort of gifts. I taught at a school in Yorkshire on an exchange in 2005 - the parents and children were absolutely lovely - we still email.

Of course we will still visit I just love reading of your daily escapades. Now let me depress you, my little darlings are 21 & 18 and they still havn't got the concept of tiding up. I have failed as a mother.

Your house sounds like my house. But no worries about people being afraid to sit on a chair for fear of messing it up.

I want to teach your kids so I can have lovely presents like that. I suppose I should get a teaching degree first though.

That little quilt is adorable. And you know we'll always talk to you. Maybe you'll have to start drawing pictures on the computer instead of taking pictures. LOL. Hope your camera situation is improved upon soon!

The good thing about being crafty is that we all have great imaginations, so don't fret, your words are enough for now to paint your pictures.
Inside scoop from my daughter's Grade 1 Teacher - Each year teachers get excited when they realise they have crafty Mums in the class family - they know the end of year/birthday pressies will be wonderful (no chocolate or soap!). Last year I gave my daughter's teacher a family diary covered in her favorite fabric colours and a poem embroidered on the front - she cried, which was the perfect response!

Of course we will talk to you! I have to say that as a school counselor I have never received such a nice "thank you". Beautiful work as always!

LOL - mothers all over the world are the same! Sounds just like my mornings too here in Australia. When asked at school why we need clocks my 5 year old answered, "to tell us how late we are."

My camera were broken for a few days, this friend of mine suggested to cool it outdoor for the sun to shine on, ha ha it works now.(Maybe I got water into it),i guess you need to find out the main reason before the fix! I like to read words out of picture sometimes, you have a lovely blog by the way!

Hi Lucy, thank for your comments on my blog - hope you don't mind but I'm replying here because you come up as 'no-reply' on my e-mail. You asked about how to get the log cabins from the mile-a-minute blocks. Basically you start with sewing squares onto a strip and cut them, then make sure that when you sew those cut pieces onto another strip you continue to add the cut edges of the square you started with to the strip. Once you've done that it becomes a bit easier and you just keep turning the shape onto the strip, adding the strip to the edge. I put a bit of masking tape onto the first square as a marker because otherwise it all gets a bit confusing and I forget which fabric I started with and the masking tape helps me to keep the square in the middle and work out where I need to add the next strip. Hope this helps (though I suspect I've just confused you).

I work in a reception class as a TA, and believe me, very few mummies have the skill of labelling clothes, filling in forms, or returning reading books! We get used to it, and we love you even more for being ever so slightly scatty (whilst secretly tearing our hair out of course!)

Sounds like you need the same magic 'tidy-up' fairy that I keep praying for :o)

I read on someone's comments that you got your pincushion. Glad it arrived. I have a pkg to Scotland that's not arrived after a month.
Miss you,

Cyberspace is so annoying when it doesn't deliver things properly! I did email Joni at Yummers straight away because she sent such a wonderful pincushion that I have been using ever since it arrived two days ago! It is gorgeous and I wish my email had arrived safely as I hate to think that she didn't get my thanks straight away : (

If the camera is still broken try putting appliqued fabric etc.. straight onto scanner and scan in. I do this with my appliqued peices and it comes out on blog much clearer that taking a photo. You caould also untill camera working again put favourite peices of fabric into scanner also to put on blog.

Hi Lucy, it's just Susan. It's nice to catch up with you via your blog. At least I know to send Dorothy's birthday card before her birthday so you can take it away with you.
You are not alone with the house stuff. I cant seem to get my head round mine either. Have a fab holiday and am really looking forward to seeing what the kids made for their teachers.
lots of love and wishes xxxxx*

Hi!

I don't know if I've posted here yet or not, but I found your blog via a fellow quilter. Just wanted to let you know of a mini-quilt swap I am hosting. We'd love to have you if you are interested. The details are given at the blog link below. If it happens that you are not interested, I'd still appreciate if you could spread the word in the event some of your blog's readers might like to participate. Thanks!
