The perfect antidote

Well, I've discovered the perfect antidote to the working week...................

playing in my sewing room of course!

Sewing together all my varying strips of selvedge with a plan to turn them all into a quilt one day (no guessing who my inspiration has been for this!)

and making spidersweb blocks

using this fantastic tutorial

and inspired by this crafty monkey.

I've also cut out a dress for a new Kinder Doll for my friend's gorgeous little, soon-to-be-3-year-old but no sneak peeks of that yet!

And today I reluctantly dragged myself away from the sewing room (and the children away from the TV/computer/toys/books*) to go to the allotment where we dug up bag after bag after bag full of potatoes, harvested even more courgettes (zucchini) and accidental marrows, had a huge bonfire and picked all the sweetcorn...........

Totally and utterly

Delicious!

So why do I have to go back to work tomorrow????

There's so much else I need/want to do instead!

* Mr Locket was as gorgeous as ever and just said he was happy to do whatever would make the rest of us happy. He is fabulous!

Fresh, sweet corn = summer! I'm so jealous.

I love those spiderweb blocks! I may steal that idea as those are beautiful and could come out of the scrap bag.

And I agree - sewing is the perfect antidote!

Sounds like a fab weekend Mrs Locket.
I always have that 'why do I have to go back to work after the weekend' feeling too. Still, we have to earn our fabric stash money somehow don't we :o)

Roll on next weekend!

'Accidental marrows' - we had a few of those!

All our corn is scoffed, and we've resolved to plant far more next year. Mmmmm.

Only 5 days till the next weekend!

I love your spiders web blocks, I have little patience with cutting out so if I made some it would like the spider had been at the wine!
Nothing like sweetcorn freshly picked,mmmm.

Loving the spiderwebs and the selvedges - I've been saving mine in the hope of doing something similar in the future, but I don't have nearly enough yet. Good reason to buy more fabric I think!

Thanks for passing on the link to the spider web block tutorial. Your blocks are beautiful! Keepsake Quilting's newest catalog just arrived, and they must have been at your alotment taking photos. They have potato fabric - really! And corn fabric. Too funny. :>} (Not quite sure what one does with potato fabric. . .)

Ooh Locket - I love those spider webby blocks! I HAVE to make some but I seem to have lost my screwdriver and my knitting head is far too firmly screwed on right now!
I need an injection of sewing mojo - let me know if you have any spare.

Just a thimbleful....

Sounds like a fun weekend, especially if the family joined in the allotment visit. I quite agree, getting out a piece of material has always been my solution for every ill!

Hi there! If you only have a few corn cobs to cook - leave the husks on and pop in the microwave for 3 minutes per cob - they cook to perfection in their husks/leaves!! (e.g 2 cobs = 6 minutes) Take care peeling them when they're done - steamy hot!!
Looking forward to summer here in New Zealand (-:
Love your blog!

What a brilliant idea! I love selvedge edges (try saying that ten times) but have always heaved a great sigh and tossed them onto the compost/ Now really kicking myself, this is a fantastic idea. Thank you so much for passing it on!
