Feeling a bit "un"

Sorry I haven't written a Happy New Year post before now - but I'm feeling a bit "un".

Do you know what I mean?

No? Didn't think you would really!

I'm just feeling a bit flat and all the un- words like

un-enthusiastic

un-motivated (or should that be "de-"?)

un-inspired

un-healthy

un-fit

un-economic (why do I keep spending money I haven't got?)

and then a few of my own inventions like

un-bouncy

un-sparky

(and I'm the kind of person that really NEEDS to feel bouncy and sparky)

un-thin - oh yes, very definitely un-thin

although I'm not necessarily completely un-happy

but it means that I'm wandering around blogland seeing all your lovely posts and inspiring New Year's Resolution type ideas and it's just making me more aware of how un-resolution-y, how nothing-y I feel. Which then makes me go all introspective.

But the problem with being introspective is that I don't much like the view.

So I haven't been blogging and now that I'm back at work I'm really struggling to keep up with reading and commenting - but I'll keep trying.

But enough of all that. Do you want to know what has been going on?

It's been snowing!

Had you noticed? ;o)

And last night is snowed and snowed and snowed so we have loads and loads of the white stuff - and very pretty it is too - unless you actually want to go somewhere!

Frustratingly, despite all the white stuff and the nasty-pasty icy roads the Little Lockets are blessed with practically the only schools in the region that have stayed at open which means they've had to go to school (not happy) and I've had to go to work (really not happy) and I've been late every day and had to leave early some days so my timesheet is looking really bad already this month which means I will be trying to catch up for ages :o(

Mr Locket and the Littles have gone for a walk and a bit of sledging but it has just started to snow REALLY heavily again so I'm not sure how long they will last. I've stayed at home to tidy - can you tell how hard I'm working?

I've done lots of knitting lately - but forgotten to take photos.

I made Mum a lovely Noro Blossom scarf like this one

Dad a pair of Cash-Soft mittens

Bossy-Big-Sister Ally a Mousie by Ysolda

My friend and childminder Janice a pair of silk and merino mittens a bit like these

and my friend Jane a Noro Blossom scarf and mittens just like

these:

(modelled by mad-dottie-locket)
I've also caught the lets-knit-hats-in-one-and-a-half-hours bug from Anna and Moogs but as Mr Locket and Fred are actually wearing theirs at the moment there's no photographic evidence.

And I bought lots of lovely bargain wool at John Lewis this week - the one perk of working in Newcastle centre being the ability to pop into the shops on the way home.

But my new obsession has been jewellery making so lots of family and friends received bracelets for Christmas made by the Little Lockets. Here are a few I've made for myself

and this is the gorgeous necklace and bracelet that my much cleverer jewellery-making friend Alison made for Mr Locket to give me for Christmas

But, being the sad kind of person that I am, what REALLY gets me excited about beads and jewellery making is playing around sorting them into these little boxes and arranging them "just so".

And I really love how the boxes fit perfectly inside this tin.

I have another tin that the contents "fit perfectly" in and it makes me happy every time I use it!

That says a lot about me really, doesn't it?! Hmm, perhaps I should have kept it to myself!!! ;o)

Ok then. For someone who isn't in the right kind of mood for blogging, I seem to have wittered on for rather a long time - but it's put me in a much better frame of mind so for those of you who have made it to the bitter end - thanks for reading!

Oh, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

What a lot of lovely things you've made. I hope you're feeling a little less "un" soon... I know the feeling well!

Hi Lucy! I think the New year's beginning is always a strange period, you make lots of plannings, new ideas, good wishes... and I feel always not up to date, to face the new year. I'm "un" in a lot of ways, just like you. In particular... un-thin :-(
But reading your wonderful post I think that your "un-mood" will become an "up" one very soon^_^
Hugs, Valeria

Ah, Lucy, you've described it really well - "Un". Bang on.

Hope you're feeling a bit brighter soon. We didn't have our school closed either, but then we didn't get a great deal of snow (which actually accounts for a lot of my mood. I like watching snow!)

Lots of knitting going on in your 'un' world Locket so perhaps you are only a little bit 'un'??

At least you haven't felt un-chatty or un-texty!! Now that you've had MUCH more snow let's hope everything up there shut's down to so that you can do what you should be doing - sitting home and knitting.

Thank goodness you're not feeling un-knitty or un-beady either. Those are some very pretty things you've been making :)

About those quick hats.....don't blame me....Anna started it!!

Yes I have been feeling "un" too!!
Trapped in my Liv'in the dream senario . . . . I haven't been out for weeks . . . snow-bound . . . . . . . and I can't get motivated either!!
I am waiting for inspiration!!
Love Helen xx

Don't forget lots of us only show the best bits on our blogs so there's a lot more un around than you'd think.
A much better use of time to be blogging rather than tidying - it only gets messy again 2 minutes later!
Have a snowball fight when the other get back, good for the uns.xx

Unfortunatly, it's a 'that time of year' feeling...I get it every year. Everything is an effort at the moment and for me is not helped by the horrible snow. The school I work at has been shut for the last 3 days, which was lucky as I had a sickness bug, but I would have liked to have been at work as I find that gives me a kick up the backside lol. I am hoping that we will not have too much snow on Sunday (as they keep promising) as I want to get back to a routine! Take care, hope you feel a bit more perky soon. Sue x

Sorry about the 'un' Lucy. I've been trying to fend it off by blogging. It works some days!

Oh though - your knittiness is marvellous (especially those changey colour mittens - noro you say - that's a stomach virus - eek!) and I can see I've got competition! Those joo-ells are very very lovely!

Hi Lucy,
I've thought it over and come back to comment.
When you are un-this and un-that, you need re-this and re-that.
Rejuvenate, refresh, relax, restore, recover, recuperate, renew, (resolve?), even recycle, renovate and re-awakening.
It's not coincidence that by the end of this snowy month, every other TV commercial will be for an exotic cruise.
I hope you get a chance to do something different to get you out of your rut. Keep us posted.

Sorry you're feeling "un" - I'm starting to feel a bit like that myself after having the kids off school because of the snow - we're all getting a touch of cabin fever I think. I might actually scream if they don't go back to school on Monday!
Lovely knitted things, and the jewellery is so pretty!

Though you may be feeling ‘un’happy I loved reading your post. And.. a Happy New Year!

Maybe you’re just suffering from Winter depression...

I hope you will be able to ‘un’wind yourself and feel better soon! A new decade started!

Sounds like the January blues...Don't feel bad...I've got them too! I read on a blog that the internet is a fast moving place and no one says you've got to keep up. Just do what you can and don't feel bad if you don't.

Take care!

g'day Lucypoo...
I know what you mean about being 'un'... find something small to finish..

I think new years resolutions are very over rated! I mean, why set yourself up for failure? I figure if I live a good life, and treat others how I want to be treated, well what more is there? I did give up meat on boxing day, so not a new years resolution.. I am having a 'meatless month' I am not a huge carnivore (Ok I am huge, but you know what I mean) so we have been having lots of salads and quiche's etc.. Its going to be a cool day here today, only 30C! LOL

Lissa
definately not frozen, does that mean I am UNfrozen?
PPS have the fun of doing craft is reorganising / folding / fiddling so I woulnd't be too sterssed petal!

Hi Lucy, I hope the "un's" are slowly disappearing. Could be the weather, could be the weight? I'm feeling pretty disgusting myself, and Ric Rac is doing all this exercise, and I promise that I'll start, but there is always something much more fun to do. I DO have a sports bra, and that's about the closest I have been to exercise in awhile. Does that count?? Your knitting is superb, and you HAVE been doing lots. I LOVE the scarf that "Mad Dottie" is wearing. I want to make one of those. Is it a hard pattern?? I love your style of tidying too, it's so like me. Send the kids off and then find much more interesting things to do. Chin up girl.

Oh, your knitting is fabulous! Nicely done, and very inspiring to the rest of us. How can you feel un after all that? About four years ago I treated a bad case of the uns with small quilt creations, and I never really stopped. LOL.

Hi Lucy! I know EXACTLY what you mean. xx

Feeling 'un' isn't nice, so have a big (((hug))). I don't think there's anything I can say to make you feel less 'un', except be kind to yourself - we're all allowed to be 'un' sometimes.

Happy New Year to you and your Lockets, and congratulations to Dottie on her blog.

I'm also suffering a bit of the un's at the moment too. I think it's OK though, it happens every January for me. Going back to work last week after a christmas break was so hard and it was such a long week too. I just wanted to stay at home and hibernate, in PJ's slippers and blankets.
Hope you (we) feel a bit more energised soon :o)

wow molly!!
i think just looking at your blog post, and your cute little tins holding all your fun things to work with has me wanting to organize my schtuff!!
and i LOVE that there are snowflakes on your front window.
Locketville looks like a wonderful place to live if you ask me!
Happy New Year Molly.
I've been feeling better lately by getting rid of things I don't *love*. I've been going through every drawer, cupboard, closet, etc. If it hasn't been used in the last year, I'm donating it somewhere. Your tins are inspiring.
your knitting is beautiful. i am currently working on my first pair of socks. (wish me luck, it's been going on and getting ripped out for quite a while now!)
Happy New Year Molly.
