Digging to Australia

The recent lovely weather has prompted some evening visits to the beach

where Fred decided he was going to "Dig to Australia".

He was quite cross when we announced that we had to go home after our first visit because his hole wasn't big enough

so it really made us laugh when we found this hole

only 20 metres away from where he had been digging

this hole was MUCH closer to Australia!

So last night he started digging again whilst I found a new way to get sand in my socks...............

He then decided to sit down in the sea - in his school uniform - and then thought it was a good idea to ROLL his very wet self in the sand!

And finally he decided to stop digging his hole and start burying himself instead.

Honestly, he's worse than a puppy!

(and just as cute!)

He's going to look a right mess going into school tomorrow with all that sand all over him. That'll teach him ;o)

Socks are looking good Locket! You just can't beat a bit of beach knitting.

I live in South Australia but couldn't see your little man on the beach this morning. Me thinks a bit more digging is required!!

The beaches in your part of the world are so lovely (but I know from child chasing experience how cold that water is!). Digging is a better option by far.

I don't think I could have coped with all that sand all over him... hose down in the garden? (I know I'm a cruel mother)What a lovely beach though.

I have a ten year old that would be just the same! there seems to be some genetic urge to dig.

Tell him I thought I noticed a bit of a mound in my garden this morning! How funny as a child in Australia I always dug to China.

How clever of Fred to dig a passage to Australia just in time for Jodie's blogmeet (with no ax murderers). Will that white shirt ever be the same?? If not, a fun time at the beach is worth a shirt or two. When do summer holidays start? By next term he'll have outgrown that shirt anyway. :>}
Next week I'll be knitting socks at the beach, too!

That is so funny to read Lucy, when we were small ,here in sunny Australia, my mother would pack up us 4 girls and a few strays and take of to the beach in a big orange tent, for 6 weeks, Dad would take a fortnight off work and come for a while, and all the time he was there, we dug holes to CHINA!! Endless days of digging and burying Dad! -at least it stopped his feet getting sunburnt!
