The kindness of bloggers

The bushfires in Australia are too horrible to truly comprehend over here in cold damp England and my heart goes out to everyone affected by them.

Being a part of blogland has made the World seem so much smaller - I actually have good friends in Australia now. Friends I really care about. Friends I was very worried about until I was able to check they were ok. This has brought the horror of the situation much closer to home and made my need to help much stronger.

I'm delighted to see how many people are rushing to help with donations of money (please go to the Australian Red Cross site if you can) and gifts of toys/goods/blood etc.

But most poignantly to me at least is that the kindness of bloggers is once again beautifully demonstrated.

I hope to make a gift to send to the wonderful Toy Society. Trashy is hosting a fab raffle. Melly and Me are having a silent auction. Then there's the handmade help website (see my sidebar), Silly Gilly is co-ordinating an ebay auction, Jodie has donated the most gorgeous Kinder Girl, and I'm sure there are lots of other lovely things going on to help that I can't remember at the moment (sorry if I have accidentally left you out!)

The World is not so big a place after all.

It's amazed me too, just how small the world seems now. It's also reinforced what a truly great bunch of people crafty bloggers are.

Excellent post Mrs Locket. Keep up the good work!

Hi Lucy, It has just been a horrible weekend over here in oz, especially Victoria. It is great that the human spirit rallies in disasters such as this and I'm glad that our world has become smaller.

You're right Lucy, it's so much closer to home when one regularly interacts with bloggers over on the other side of the planet. Well done for publishing all the links. I'll do one tomorrow morning.

lucy,
it's great to see that the blogging world has rallied together...my friend lives in victoria and the fire got to the end of her street...but she is fine and all her family that live down there and it was such a huge relief to hear from her...
but so many families have lost everything and so many lives...it is so sad...thanks for the lovely post...it's great to think that so many people are helping...

The internet makes the world alot smaller! It seems that everyone knows someone... somewhere! It's awesome to see what so many people are doing. It'll be a long hard road for those affected. BUT, with so many people willing to help with whatever... at least they'll be supported along their journey. I can't fathom it at all. I too am doing some sewing for Toy Society. We are so lucky!

The UK red cross web site has now launched an appeal as well.

These fires are truely shocking.

Typed the link before I saw Trash had also linked to it. Well, you could always donate twice.

Thank you for a wonderful day. The children seemed to get along which was really nice. My two couldnt wait to tell Daddy all about their new friends. I bet they could have talked and played all day really.

Take care,
