Party in the Dark

Earth Hour in Locketland was a huge success last night as we had our very own

PARTY IN THE DARK!

We lit all the candles we could find

and lit a lovely open fire (because it was the coldest night we've had in ages!)

We then ceremoniously switched off the main electricity switch at 8.30 (leaving a load of washing mid cycle in the machine, whoops!)

Then the party began!

The scrummy food was kindly donated by Jane whose little girl's birthday party we'd been to in the afternoon.

It was lovely sitting there chatting with the children without the distraction of the telly or the computer and we talked about all the things we needed electricity for and what it would have been like in the "olden days" (we'd just been watching Robin Hood - hooray for the new series!!)

Once we'd finished our "tea" we played some games - slightly difficult in the dark, but we persisted, and then we all squashed up on the sofa and laughed ourselves silly taking it in turns to play charades.

The children want to do it every Saturday night now!

That looks like serious fun Lucy! Such a great idea to make an event of Earth Hour. I find the house looks, well, cleaner in the dark. He!

It looks like a fine way to spend a Saturday evening - and I'm so glad you were able to watch Robin Hood first!
Although we didn't do Earth Hour last night, we did have a candles only night on Friday....with the telly on...

The kids were at their dad's, I was poorly-sick - Earth hour was just right for me ... went to bed! Glad you all had a nice time. x

Didn't do earth hour, although the dishwasher died yesterday so I spent the hour washing up dinner dishes the electricity-less way. Does that count?

That looks like such fun!

When I had no power for one entire week in December, it was very peaceful and pleasant - and I actually began writing with a pen again, instead of a keyboard.

Candles on hand, propane heater and wood for the stove as well. Missed the running water, though!

I thought you were only supposed to turn the lights off?! Seriously though, good for you for going the whole hog and making such a fun party of it! I'm ashamed to say we didn't join in, (but I do try to be quite green the rest of the time so I didn't feel too bad!)

We couldn't do it, Maya screams if the lights are off while she goes to sleep so maybe next year. Nearly half of Australia were lights off though. You look like you had a great time!
