Growing up

"School bag in hand, she leaves home in the early morning, waving goodbye with an absent-minded smile........"
Off to secondary school looking gorgeous!

I've been teasing her all summer about the "Slipping through my fingers" song from the Mamma Mia film - but that is just a cover for what a big step this is for her - and for me. There is a real truth in the song lyrics that struck home when I watched the film.

My little girl is growing up and there really is that "feeling that I'm losing her forever, and without really entering her world"
Sentimental slush, I know!

The other problem is that I'm monumentally jealous of her starting a new school with all the amazing things she is going to learn and all the new and exciting experiences (along with some of the more scary ones no doubt - not so envious of them)

Come back later for a jollier post about all the lovely presents I got for my birthday!

awww I know, I felt the exact same way when I heard that song in Mamma Mia, about Ellie. She is going back to secondary school tomorrow and I don't want her to go :/
I hope Dot has a lovely day.

I can empathise so much - my youngest starts senior school on Thursday but my eldest started 6th Form College yesterday - now that was a real toughie! The thing that I find even more daunting is the fact that this time two years hence we'll be packing up all her stuff to take her to Uni - now that's seriously scary!!!

ps - hope the hands feeling much better

I hope she has a great day. My son starts year two tomorrow. I'm sure the years will wizz past far too quickly and before I know it he'll be at secondry school.
That song in Mama Mia was very moving, I hadn't heard it before. Maybe I had but it would have been when I was very young and the sentiments of the song wouldn't have meant anything so it wouldn't have stayed in my mind.

now, right there is one reason that was not a feel good movie, regardless of whatever that Soton grumper says!

I think you'll touch a lot of nerves with fellow bloggers whose children are off to school today- you certainly tugged at my frazzled heart strings!

I bet she absolutely loves it!
My little girl starts reception tomorrow and I am feeling all sentimental and slushy too.
Its your parental rights to be slushy on days like this.

Firstly...how's your wrist?

Secondly...doesn't she look beautiful? Thank the Lord you have 2 more babies still, because Dot is now officially a big girl. I hope the first day went ok, and she's settling in well. I am petrified, and excited at the same time for her!!!! (and also a bit jealous too - I loved high school, amazing memories)

awww... i'm not sure if it's different for boys - i'm sure it is in many ways but I do feel for you. This step for our children is such a big one - it will take her into adulthood but never away from her mum. Hope she has had a nice day! xx

Its hard when they go to secondary school but at heart they are still your little girl and still need a cuddle when life gets too much. I miss Ali so much when she's at Uni but hopefully this year it won't be quite so hard. Happy Birthday. Jane x

I secretly cried at that bit of the film in case anyone thought I was mushy! She looks so grown up, how hard it must be to let her go. She'll love high school, and she'll always be your daughter, no matter how grown up.

Dot looks very very grown up and gorgeous in her new school uniform. I hope she had a wonderful first day :)

Such a big step for both of you. I loved that bit of Mamma Mia (as well as all the other bits!!) and I will rise above Trashy's jibe - bless her, it's all those years spent upside down...the blood must have rushed to her head!

As soon as I started reading your blog I found myself singing the lyrics, it's a lovely song!
What an exciting and scary time for Dot but she looks well prepared!
They grow up too fast, sometimes I wish I could wind the clock back so I can enjoy mine when he was a toddler again.
P.S. Hope your relaxing that wrist and it's improving.

she look so smart in her uniform!! and the bag look matching too!! :) how's yr hands?

She looks very grownup and beautiful in her school uniform, the bag looks great too.

She still needs her mum as much now and I am sure you won't lose her too much, despite her growing need for independence - I have had some of that with C over this summer, just little things like her keeping her bedroom door shut, but it does make you realise how quickly they grow up.

Sure she will have lots of fun but I remember how scary and daunting it was going to high school, so she will needs lots of cuddles too!

Hope the hand is feeling better.
