Lending out a Little Locket

I'm feeling a bit strange today as my biggest Little Locket is off on her first school holiday tomorrow morning and won't get back until Friday afternoon. She is so excited and I know she will have an absolutely fantastic time but I am still feeling a bit raw about lending her out to the teachers!

To help myself to cope with it all (I am sooooooooo soft!) I have made her a new cuddly to take away with her so that she had something "special" but not so "old and special" that it would be a total disaster if it was lost.

So may I please introduce Miss Maggie Moo

From the ever brilliant duo Melly and Me and their pattern Magoo (as Maggie is a girl we had to adapt the name obviously!)

I gave her to Dorothy on Friday evening and she loves her but what she doesn't know is that I have made her a "matchbox letter" in similar fabrics (inspired by this tutorial), wishing her a happy holiday from all of us and enclosing a tiny weeny torch so she can read her book if she wakes up very early (as she tends to do). The matchbox is in a little bag that Maggie is wearing while she patiently waits in the suitcase ready to be unpacked tomorrow evening so Dot should hopefully have a lovely surprise.

So it will be a strangely quiet week chez Locket but I am sure Dot will have an absolute blast!

How exiting for Miss Locket! Waving goodbye the first time is always hard-but I bet she'll have a great time:-)

Oooo Locket! You are being so brave and stoical, from up here on the Hill I can see everything y'know.

Hope Miss Dot has a triffic time and everyone Chez Locket copes in her absence.

I am sure your biggest little locket will be fine especially with the lovely things you have made for her to take. Thanks for the matchbox link!

You will spend the whole week concerned is she warm enough?, is she able to sleep?, will she be able to shower? will she miss me? and countless other things that as mummys our minds can come up with at any hour of the day or night. She will leave tomorrow and may even be a little aprehensive. She will return as a new woman or should that be girl with lots of stories to tell you all. Best of all the return hug will be just the BEST.

My baby is 17 and I still remember the 1st time he was away from home.

She will be fine, you on the other hand will probably never be the same again.

Very grown up to go away from home - and such lovely secret surprises to find in her suitcase. She might have tricky homesick moments (I did at Pwllheli Butlins in 1983) but Miss M and the secrets you've packed for her will help no end if there's a wobble.

awe! What an adorable companion. It will keep her from being homesick I'm sure, and will help you knowing a little piece of you has gone along with her. rough sending them off for the first time. But you can feel very proud of her!

Oh you are a lovely mum - our Year 5s and 6s have just been on their trip and I think the mums found it much harder than they did!

Aww, that's a lovely idea! I'm sure Dot will love finding that surprise in her fab new monkey's bag and that she'll have a great time...it's you I'm worried about! You'll just have to do some extra crafting to keep your mind occupied :)

Great idea - I once put a secret message in master 13's toothpaste holder - he was away for 10 days and didn't notice the message !!! Hmmm

it's amazing how much quieter the house is with only one gone - i still find it eerie and now that em is getting older she is away more often. the first time she went on camp i thought about her so often - more than i would have if she had been just at school.
i hope the days pass quickly so can be reunited soon and hear about all her amazing adventures.

Awww, Maggie is wonderful! I have that pattern but have yet to attempt it.

Am sure Dot will have a wonderful time: No.1 went on her residential a couple of weeks ago. I was just like you - anxious for her. But she had an absolutely brilliant time, and all us parents were more pleased when it was over than any of the kids were!

Take care. x

You are a brave mummy and a very kind one. I bet she has a great time, you'll just have to keep yourself busy making fabby stuff and perhaps treat yourself to some new fabric - any excuse ;)

It gets easier by the time Fred goes you wouldn't give it any thought. I'm sure Dot will have a great time and I love Maggie I have that pattern just not made it yet.

oh and when she comes home you'll love her even more than before ;) (as if that is possible).
My 7year old son went away with his class for 5 long days!!!! Funnny thing is: I made him a monkee too as a surprise in his suitcase Never thought I would have survived that, lol!
She surely have fun!!

You'll get used to it - ours have been away loads of time, with school, girls/boys brigades and scouts and I guess I'm almost immune to the separation pangs now - just waved Lou off to the Isle of Wight this morning - I quite enjoy the different chemistry in the house with one missing - there's less squabbling for starters - but I do still miss them a little. I have to say the thing I'm not looking forward to is Sarah going to Uni in two years time - now that will be tough!!! Thank goodness for things like MSN

She will be fine and so will you. It does hurt a bit but you will be proud that she is growing strong and seeing life. Are you writing her a letter for the teacher to give to her half way through the hols. I did that with mine and we also hid little treats amongst the clothes they took, to be used for midnight (well about 10.00) feasts!!

First one's always the hardest! But I expect she's having a whale of a time. I wonder if girls change their clothes on school trips, because boys apparently dont - which makes unpacking quite easy!!

I'm sure she'll have a wonderful time and with that cheeky monkey to keep her company she'll be extra fine.
Maybe you should have made one for yourself as I think you are going to feel the loss more.

What a fun idea Lucy! And what a lucky Locket to get a Maggie Magoo. Are the other little Lockets jealous -- 'cause I am LOL!

I hope Dot has a great time .... if she's anything like my two, she'll cry when she comes back! (that says so much for my parenting skills, I know)

Loving her travelling companion

Your Maggie looks lovely Lucy. The Magoo's are bigger than they look. I hope you are coping with one less Locket :) we only have a month before Ayden leaves for 10 weeks.. taking a big breath...

What a lovely mummy you are! I'm sure Dot will have a wonderful time especially having Maggie Moo and her little matchbox to reminder her of how much you all love her. It will be Friday before you know it!

How exciting, my baby girl came home from a 2 night trip a couple of weeks ago - she had a brilliant time. I sent her a little note tied round a mouse's neck (not a real mouse, silly, a pretend one). Soppy mummies, aren't we?!

I'm sure she'll have a great time - did you ever go to Middleton camp ? Love Maggie and the matchbox idea is just great

Hey Lucy, I've just had a mega catch up as I haven't been hopping much lately. There is just so much gorgeous goodness on here I'm just going to say I love it all!!!

I'm sure that Dorothy will be having way too much fun to worry about missing everyone or even how everyone at home will be missing her.

xx

I hope Dorothy has a lovely time on holiday, and that you are ok too. I know that feeling too and I still get it every time Em goes away with school or Guides. I also get it every time I see Al when she's at Uni. Maggie Monkey is very sweet and i'm sure she will look after Dorothy very well. Jane x
