Giving up, giving in, opting out - in other words, having a break

I realised I had reached a bit of a crisis point with my sewing when I was wishing I could do housework instead! Those of you who know me will understand how extreme that is!!

So I have dropped out of the craft fair at the weekend and have decided to give myself a couple of weeks holiday from the crafting that I "ought" to be doing in the hope that I get the buzz back.

My husband's aunt used to describe me as being like "a bug in treacle" because my life is so chaotic and in the olden days (!) I disagreed - now it seems like the most appropriate label for me.

I need a break so that I can focus on the most important things in life for a bit

i.e. these

this

and this

(because if I can make the house tidier and more manageable so many other things will get easier - especially poor Mr Locket's life!)

I'm not having a break from blogging, nor am I stopping crafting - I have plans of things I'd like to make with and for the children as the holidays start tonight - but I'm just stopping doing my orders and pifs and swaps for a couple of weeks until everything else is more settled - I hope you will all understand.

Lucy x

ooh well I'm glad you are not having a break from blogging. I am pretty sure everyone will understand you need to take time out to spend with your family! You are such a super busy woman you leave me feeling dizzy. I don't think I could do as much as you without running out of steam after five minutes!
So enjoy taking time out to spend with the children (lovely school holidays hurrah!!) and Mr Locket!!!
*hugs*

School holidays are here and (ha!) the sun is shining so naturally you will be spending more time on that really important part of your life - obviously that would be blogging ;-)

Go easy on yourself Locket. Let the superwoman cape be worn be the rest of the world for a little bit.

Smart move Lucy - you need to get back on track with the priorities, but I'm so glad you're not stopping blogging!!! You had me worried there for just a moment. Smell those roses.

Good on you Lucy! No point putting your self under pressure. Lets see how far you get with your beautiful ripple blanket.

My comment just got lost - apologies if it appears twice.

So so glad you're taking a break. Maybe indulge in some wine, chocolate, easy viewing dvd (maybe St Elmo's Fire or similar) and a laugh with all the other Lockets. The sewing machine has clearly become a taskmaster not a friend - time to ditch it for a while.

Sending thoughts - I've taken on too much so many times and had to cancel craft fair stands too. It's a horrid feeling but when the morning dawns and you're snuggled in bed/having that first cuppa instead of lugging stuff around and madly trying to find a venue it's SO worth it!

It seems to me that certain bugs in treacle can make a huge number of beautiful things and achieve an extraordinary amount (and I've only been looking at your blog for two months!) Enjoy yourself and go easy on yourself too - you really deserve it.

ooh I know that feeling, I feel the same. Enjoy your children and mr. locket because other stuff is not so important as your family. Glad your not stopping blogging, I'd miss you. Saying that, blogging seems to be intermitant in my life at the mo. Hugs xx

I think that you have made a terribly sensible decision there.

Wait a minute, sensible? Is this really lucy locket? Has she been taken over by an evil twin? Being sensible AND thinking about housework.
Should we get the monkee army round to rescue the real lucy?

Enjoy the hols with the kids and mr. Take care of yourself.

This is a good plan. They grow up so quick! And relationships need to be worked on or they suffer!! There will be many more craft fairs when you're ready (says she who has one in a week and very little stock *LOL*)
keep your chin up (and the treacle out of your hair!) :-)

Don't blame you at all, sometimes we all need to step off the treadmill and slow down for a while. Enjoy those children, the holidays are here!

you really need the break not only to getting back of yr crafting mojo but also YOU really need to rest! you've been so good to others and making so much for others .don't worn out yrself coz we still need you here! :)

Sounds like you've got your priorities sorted out. I go through phases of focusing on craft then focusing on family and home. You just have to do what feels right for you and when your crafty mojo comes back it will do so with a vengeance (take it from me) Enjoy the school holidays, it goes so fast, you'll feel so much better for it.
X Clare
ps Hope to see you and the little lockets very soon.

Put your feet up for a bit! Before you know it autumn will be on us again and you will be itching to get back to the sewing machine!!!

May Kristin said...

Clever move, Lucy! Enjoy your time with your precious ones, and take time to relax!! When you are working under too much pressure it will take away the joy you have crafting, your "mojo" disappear. Don't do that to yourself!
Take care!

hey, when it becomes a chore and not fun anymore, it's always best to have a break. i find the pressure just makes any creativity go completely. plus with the summer holidays looming, i think you deserve a bit of a rest : )

I think it comes to us all from time to time Lucy - the question of priorities! You have to do what you think and feel is the right thing - the best thing for you and your family.

Take care. x

Lucy, you are such a superwoman and so talented I am constantly amazed by all your achievements.

It'll do you good to take a bit of a break to ease the pressure - this is supposed to be fun! Enjoy your time whatever you do and your mojo will be back before you know it!!!

locket - take a blooming break, woman!!!! let the crown slip for a few weeks and relax.
Of course you could get those small Lockets and maybe Mr Locket to work with the swaps and pifs?.....now there's a plan....

Ah yes, Sweet Lucy! You know what the important things in life are. I don't know how you've managed so far. Enjoy your break and the school break with the lil' Lockets!

HUGS! lucy you have to have your life in the correct order. Good luck to you.

What could be more important than those beautiful children and that highly understanding and patient husband?? I agree with you about stepping back from all the swaps and things. I stopped signing up because I had felt it had become too much to balance and crafting stops becoming fun and starts to be a chore! I guess you can have too much of a good thing.
Hope you get your buzz back soon in a more balanced way!
Hugs, Nicky
