Well I blame Lucy

BUT FIRST! More funny, funny, funny pictures of my fabulous trip down under! I feel so honoured to have been allowed to join in all the fun at the Trash and Treasure meet up!

I just had no idea what Jodie was planning when I got this email from her last week

Hey Lucy , you know the pic of you on your blog when you are a little girl - the one we all think you must still look like??? Anyway can you email that to me????? Please????? No questions.........just trust me.....

But now there is a flat version of me, who knows where else I could go?! (I just wish I was as cute and slim in profile as the other 2-D me!)

Apparently I behaved true to form......................

You had a quite a busy day yesterday - I am surprised you are out of bed.
Dinner at annies was fun , even if you did have a few drinks and fall off the couch. Of course you loved hanging out in the chook pen.
It was such a great day and I was driving home with you in the car seat next to me last night about 11.30 having a lovely conversation and you know what - after 12 or more hours of straight blogmeet - you were still smiling......

Sounds just like me! (I used to spend many a happy hour sitting in our chicken run with a book when I was a child!!!)

Meanwhile the much older and plumper version of me has been busy being corrupted into spending money on crafty supplies which I'm sure you all know I don't normally do!!!

As I said before, I blame Lucy.

No! Not ME!

This Lucy!

With her incredibly beautiful and inspiring and fairly-new-to-me blog. Such pretty, pretty colours and lovely photos - I just want to invite myself round for tea!

So I simply had to top up my stash of double knit cottons so I could have a play with some of her crochet patterns.

It wasn't my fault that Fred was at a party on Saturday and there wasn't really enough time to come home and then go back to pick him up. It wasn't my fault that there happened to be a wool shop nearby while I was waiting. And it really wasn't my fault that the cottons jumped off the shelf and into my arms was it?

Actually a really lovely thing happened at the wool shop. I was tootling around looking at all the pretty colours when an elderly lady entered the shop and asked the shopkeeper if she could show her how to do treble (US double) crochet. The shopkeeper said she couldn't as she wasn't a crochet-er so I piped up "I can show you if you like!" So I did. And it was such a lovely feeling being able to help this lady. I think she had been a crochet-er but had forgotten some of the stitches. So I left with a really happy glow having helped someone out!

Now if she had asked about a double then I wouldn't have been able to help because I've forgotten how! Trebles are well and truly hooked (geddit?) in my brain because of the ripple blanket.

Which is my swish lead in to this photo

It's getting bigger but there is still loads to do. I'm thinking of pinching borrowing some of Dot's Christmas crochet wools because they are just the colours I need next.................................

You naughty mummy! Go on, steal, I mean borrow them. Nothing must thwart the progress of that ripply gorgeousness.

oh dear dear me. Its a rocky slippery downward slope becoming a hooker, you know that don't you?
Well if it makes you feel better blaming me, then I'm OK with that, yes honest I am. And I really wish you could come to Attic24 for tea because I know it would be such fun.

ps your ripple is stunning. Truly. I may have to blame YOU and start another more colourful ripple.

Tut tut !! How could you even consider stealing them !!! hehehe !! Go on, I am sure she wont mind.
If you ever need to teach someone how to crochet then just give me a ring. I cant figure it out from the book and have given up.
the blanket is stunning by the way.

That ripple blanket is looking gorgeous. I've not made much progress on mine lately - it uses up so much yarn, no wonder you want to pinch Dot's

I must learn to do that ripple thing one day - the result is so delicious.

Thanks for the link to another Lucy - always nice to find 'new' blogs.

Is she using them *right now*? Has she perchance left them lying about? If so I think you'd be fully justified in swiping them in the name of clearing up after her.

I think that if you need to go rummaging in her cupboards you're possibly stepping over some sort of line ...

I'd definitely borrow some - sure she wouldn't mind. And anyway, no doubt she'll be using some of the warmth of the blanket... (The real way around this though is to let her do some of the blanket...)

What sort of yarn do you need? I have a bit that may be of use if you're desperate.

i just love your ripple blanket and its on my 'learn to do' list - which seems to get bigger by the minute!
so glad you had a nice time in aus!

Now there's as good a reason for having children as I've ever heard...for when you're out of yarn, you can pinch some of theirs! Your yarn shop experience sounds wonderful! And I think I'm enjoying your trip to AU as much as you are!!!

I wish I could meet you in a wool shop - I need to learn how to crochet. I don't tend to frequent wool shops 'up north' sadly. Your ripple is looking fab!

Mostly you were quite well-behaved, except for that bit where you cut my thumb. But the hug I received from you and Jodie when you both first arrived makes up for the pain and agony.

How come you didn't have time to go home but DID have time to go to Aus???

If I were you I'd leave Dot's stash well alone - 'cos then you'll have to go shopping for more lovely wool!!

Lovely hexagon! I want to do some after seeing Lucy's pattern but I haven't made it to the wool shop yet. Your ripple is looking gorgeous! I photographed mine yesterday so's I could blog it but now I'll just look like I'm copying....and I made wallets...like yours!

Uh Oh.. a hooker are you??? I used to be a hooker, but now I am more into SEX (stash expanding experiences).. I would call myself a quilter, but I think to be a quilter you have to actually put needle to thread.. alas, I've been one fat lazy blonde tart this year.. its too freaking hot to sit in the sewing area (once known as the family room now known as craft crap dumping ground)...
go on, steal the kids wool.. I mean, you are a mother, so you ALWAYS have the trump card of 'I gave you life, which means I am allowed to take it away'..

take care lucypoo....

What a cute story can you imagine the other lady telling people about the nice lady in the shop who showed her how to double crochet.

Love Lucy's site and the fact you got to go down under without leaving the UK. So funny.
Glad you had a lovely Christmas and have enjoyed catching up on your blog.

I'm so pleased to see that the Queen of the bloggy meet-up got to attend the Aussie party - even if it was only virtually!

The other Lucy's gorgeous colourful crochet creations make me want to raid Hobbycraft and get hooking!

It certainly looks like you had dun down under!! You could be like Flat Stanley now! Kids all over the US make a Flat Stanley model and he gets sent to different places over the period of a couple of months, travelling in an envelope with a journal and people keep a diary of what they did with him for a week before sending him on to someone else. When I had my friend's cousin's Flat Stanley a couple of years back he went to the nearby RAF base to see the planes before I had him sent on to Thailand with a friend who was going on holiday and then to New Zealand, If you check out the Flat Stanley site he has been seen on the Space Shuttle, Friends and all sorts of places! This could become the new adventure for you - we could all take turns to host Lucy Locket!!

It's a good feeling when you help someone out like that isn't it? It makes me want to do it all the time somehow.

Doubles: just wind the wool rund the hook once instead of twiceas you would for a treble.. Thats it!

He he, I loved reading about how you turned up at that meet on Moogsmum's post. Thank you for visiting me and saying such nice things. Honoured! I live here in the US but I was born in Singapore where they do British Eng spelling so am always slightly crazy adding and deleting "u"s from my words depending on whom I write to! I look at all the knitting/crocheting thingys you do and wish I did knit/crochet/quilt/anything that requires perseverance. The ripple blanket is breathtaking. Argh, maybe I could sew vast numbers of giant ricracs together to (badly) imitate it.

Dear Lucy it was lovely to meet you...although I thought you seemed a bit "flat" at times throughout the day. I did love to see you peeking through the agapanthas though and you did show Magoo off very nicely when you were sitting next to him in Emma's shop.

It was great to have you with us in oz! You girls over there are getting me just a little excited about crotchet again! Actually I saw you again the other day, sitting up on Jodie's sewing table watching her work. You were very well behaved then.

I left a message on the other Lucy's site. The crochet blankets there look lovely. I think you've found something very addictive there.
