MUST...........DO.........SOME..........SEWING!!!!

I've had a strangely un-productive weekend as far as crafting is concerned. I managed to do a little bit of knitting (which I will show you another day, when I have done a bit more) but I haven't done any sewing at all - which is not ideal as I have a number of orders that need starting, continuing and finishing SOON!!!!

These are the things I did do this weekend and the reasons why I didn't do much crafting:

On Saturday I went up to the allotment.
It was meant to be a family outing but the girls were both feeling manky and Fred couldn't be bothered so I went by myself.

The weather was good and I enjoyed having a bonfire and drinking cups of tea outside (there is something fun in that!) but I am glad I took a photo of what I did because I came away feeling like I hadn't achieved much at all.

But here is the evidence that I did! One long thin bed dug over and weeded ready for the new raspberry canes when they arrive.

I decided not to spend the time there shovelling manure as I didn't want to be too stinky when I got home! I'll save that for another day!

On Sunday my lovely parents came over and took us all out for a delicious meal at the local Italian bistro. The children loved it and were all "clean plate rangers" and we had a super time and because mum and dad were coming the house got rather a lot of tidying!!! But as it turned out we met them at the restaurant instead of at home!

My main distraction this weekend though, has been this:

although I really wish it had had this cover - I just like it better!

I bought it on Wednesday when I went over to Borders and to Ring a Rosie (where I bought more fabric and more wool!) and I have been reading it at every opportunity!

I really enjoyed it, but it is one of those frustrating books that makes you want to read constantly but at the same time do something creative!

My fingers were itching to knit while I was reading but I didn't want to put the book down!

Don't these authors realise what a quandry they put us in?

I have the same problem with the Elm Creek Quilts books.

It is really very inconsiderate of them!

By the way, these are the fabrics I bought from Ring a Rosie

and this is the reversible bag I made with them on Friday as part of this challenge with Lesley.

But now I must go and get on with ALL THAT SEWING!!!!!

talk to you all soon. Lucy x

I read that book. I know what you mean about unputdownable. Luckily I was on a plane most of the day I bought the book, so I finished it off within the day.

Enjoy - I won't spoil the ending!

Allotment envy looming large over here right now - especially the prospect of homegrown raspberries!!

I shall have to read that book too if it was that good!

Get some sewing done - now!!!

I'm about to be kicked off the 'puter again so I can't hand around chatting,

Between reading, tidying, gardening and dinner out, no wonder no sewing is getting done. Glad you enjoyed the book. I tried it last year but didn't read enough to get into it. Perhaps I'll have another look!

My book does have the cover you like - funny how the covers are different in the UK from the states. I am a bit over half done now - having done a lot of reading this weekend since it is too cold and rainy to be outside. Only problem is that it is making me want to run out and buy some yarn and I don't need another crafty distraction!

Gosh, you are a busy bee. Those fabrics make my mouth water (yes, that 'wet' sound you can hear is me drooling over the keyboard - not very attractive really, but there you are. A dab with some kitchen roll and we'll be right as rain).

Take care - hope you get some sewing done soon! x

I'm really enjoying the book now that I've got a bit further into it. Like you I want to keep picking up my knitting too - in fact I've almost finished one of Stewart's socks since starting the book! Love the look of your allotment.

It's funny how other 'jobs' get done before the sewing, forget them and get your sewing done! It' GOOD for you, therapeutic. then you can show us what you've done. x

Wow, you have been busy again! The bags look great and I didn't realise there was a Ring-a-Rosie blog. The best wool shop in the north east! That's where all the pigeon materials come from :) It's very strange (but also very nice) to read a blog and know all the places being talked about. Good luck with all the sewing! x

Fabulous 'lottie action Mrs Lucy Locket! I nearly went oout digging in the garden myself yesterday - but then I realised how soggy the grass was and was a bit too nervous about slipping over and landing on my (ample) behind.

Must look out for that book next time the library bus comes ...

... so, how much sewing have you done, then? ;o)

Sounds like you had a very nice weekend indeed. Sewing or no sewing :o)

Hi Lucy,

Love the bag - you'll have to make a knitting bag next!! or how about a knitting needle case - only kidding - happy sewing, (still haven't had time to read my book!)

I can't vouch for the book - it's been ages since I picked up a book .... I need someone to make me a device that holds an open book for me so that I can read and knit at the same time ....

.... but I agree on the drinking tea outside bit. Preferably in a polystyrene cup :)

And fish and chip shop chips outside on a cold day? Even better ....

I'm looking forward to seeing what's on the needles that's been distracting you from sewing.

That plot of earth looks great it has inspired me to weed my garden but at the moment the ground is so hard it is almost impossible. Well done on the bag.

Oh - our Friday Night Knitting Club has a different cover again - strange really.
I have the same problem as you, when i read books on knitting i want to knit, when i read books on quilting, i want to quilt. these days i don't seem to do any reading or any crafting :(
One more week until school goes back - perhaps then i will get a chance.

Looks like Grandpa and Fred had a good meal out Sunday! Fred looks like the "ocolate kid". Allotment bed looks well cared for too. Hope you had a good time Sunday.

I know how you feel about the Elm Creek Quilts books. I read them and want to sew but want to read! What a dilemma! Then I realize that I have spent my "Sewing time" reading! Hmm, do you think if they wrote a book about housework the laundry and dishes would get done? Probably not. Great blog!
